Elements of Competency Performance Criteria              
Element: Identify the role of traditional customs in Aboriginal and/or Torres Strait Islander Communities
  • Identify and record traditional customs of the Community related to own work
  • Identify and record traditional gender-specific roles that relate to Aboriginal and/or Torres Strait Islander land management practices
  • Identify and record changes that have occurred in traditional customs related to management of Country since British colonisation
       
Element: Outline impact of native title rights and interests recognised under non-Aboriginal and/or Torres Strait Islander law
  • Outline briefly the process to be followed in applying for native title
  • Provide an overview to Community members of the difference between native title rights and land rights
  • Identify and communicate the type of rights the Community has, or wants for a particular land or site
  • Identify organisations or groups that can provide advice relating to native title land claims
       
Element: Propose appropriate applications of traditional customs
  • Identify and record examples of successful native title applications
  • Identify and record the traditional customs used for decision-making processes in the Community
  • Determine traditional activities or sacred sites relevant to native title land and confirm with Cultural Authorities

Assessment Tasks
